Future Leaders of Irving

The mission of Future Leaders of Irving is to identify, educate, and develop our local youth to become future business and civic leaders. This is accomplished by exposing participants to the elements and operations of local government, nonprofit and businesses through introductions by appropriate role models.

The vision of FLI is to create future leaders who will have greater awareness of, participate in, and contribute to the local community.

In 2010, the Future Leaders of Irving (FLI) program was created as a local education and career readiness program for high school seniors. Each school year, up to thirty (30) high school students in Irving, TX are chosen to learn more about the civic, non-profit and corporate organizations that call Irving, TX home. Since then, over 350 hundred students have graduated from our program.

I consider it my honor and privilege to be associated with this program. When I envisioned this program years ago, I had faith and trust in the members of the team and in the students who would participate in Future Leaders of Irving.

Al Zapanta, Chairman and CEO, USMCEF

The program, which runs for seven months, provides high school seniors with the opportunity to learn more about many organizations, potential careers and important lessons in leadership. The program encourages and promotes continuing education, civic engagement and personal development.

FLI is timely to introduce high school seniors to these areas as they evaluate their college d career options. As a result of participating in the program, students have consistently broadened their views of the opportunities available to them. After each session students have reported an improvement in self-confidence, writing skills, public speaking, decision making, problem solving, leadership skills and personal growth as well as an expanded view of their educational and career options.

The Goals of the Future Leaders Program are:

  • To promote youth leadership development.
  • To provide information and support regarding local careers and educational opportunities.
